INTRO:

“When you think of historical sites in and around Toronto you

most likely conjure up thoughts of old buildings and

monuments or a site where something was signed or opened

or torn down. Few of us think of our natural heritage. The

Human River campaign – coordinated by Georgia Ydreos as an

offshoot of the Toronto Public Space Committee – is trying to

preserve the memory of one such natural site, the Garrison

Creek. Completely buried by the mid 1920’s, Human River

holds an annual storytelling parade – coming up October 25th

- to explore its past, re-envision its future, and discuss its

current stormwater issues. Reporter Mieke Anderson met

Georgia in Trinity-Bellwoods Park to talk more about the lost

waterway buried beneath their feet.”

Join us for one or ALL of our three Bike Float Workshops!

These workshops are a fun opportunity to break out the glue and get to know one another.

Using pop bottles, card board boxes and a variety of other reclaimed materials we’ll work together to create bike floats and parade props for this year’s Urban Water Cycle on Sunday, October 19. Outside of adding fish tails to bike baskets, crafts will include, hand held birds and noise makers.

After the Tuesday workshops, we’ll meander down to a local pub to chat.

For our Urban Water Cycle bike parade on Sunday October 19, we will be building bike floats, instruments and puppets during upcoming craft sessions. Human River is holding a storytelling bike parade along the route of the buried Garrison Creek on Sunday October 19. For its fourth year Human River brings you Urban Water Cycle, a storytelling bike parade following the path of the buried Garrison Creek. At 1pm we’ll gather north of St. Clair at the creek’s source before biking its full length, creating music, sharing performances and celebrating the creek’s history. With everyone wearing blue, we will become a human river bringing the Garrison Creek back to life!
