The Garrison Creek still flows beneath our city. As it rushes under homes, cafes, roads and parks, we find signs of this lost river in tilting houses, dips in streets, buried bridges and a string of green valleys.
Human River eclectic and celebratory events incorporate: education, art and exploration. Join us as we remember the water’s past as a creek that carved our city, learn about its present in Toronto’s storm sewers, and imagine its potential future.

WITH EVERYONE WEARING BLUE
WE BECAME A HUMAN RIVER
BRINGING THE GARRISON CREEK BACK TO LIFE!
A big thank-you to all those who made
the 5th anniversary edition of Human River so memorable!
Dedicated volunteers and partners
(some long-standing and just as many newly connected)
came together to create wonderfully diverse and dynamic programming.
It is through their work and determination
that Human River continues to be provided as
a free, family-friendly event each year.
Heartfelt recognition and gratitude
goes out to these individuals and groups:
~
Our 2009 Volunteers:
Alana Young, Amanda Gomm, Andrew Chiu, Catia da Silva, Eric Jones, Jess Brouse, Joanna Valsamis, Korice Moir, Shawn Vanderheyden, Trevor Ydreos
~
Our 2009 Partners:
Coach House Books, HiMY SYeD of Toronto City of Labyrinths Project, Historic Fort York, Julie Nagam, Liz Forsberg, Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests (LEAF), Lost Rivers Project of Toronto Green Community, Marlena Zuber, Martin Reis, RiverSides, Guerilla Gardeners Campaign of the Toronto Public Space Committee, Kevin Plummer of Torontist’s Historicist, Todd Irvine, vanishingpoint.ca, Youth 4 Water and wade.
~
Most importantly, Human River could not have
brought the Garrison Creek to life without
the support of dozens of participants who
generously provided their energy, enthusiasm
and financial support.
Many, many thanks to all of you.
~
Keep your eyes and ears out for Human River
at community events over the next year,
and of course…
Dress up in blue
and join the Human River
when resurfaces it next October!
~
sincerely,
georgia & erin
